Mel Harrison is the owner and Principal Instructor at BodyBella Pilates Ltd. She is dedicated to helping you achieve your fitness goals and discover the benefits of Reformer pilates on your body.​​

Experienced Reformer Instructor

Mel is an experienced Pilates Reformer instructor who brings variety, intelligence, and care to every class. Her teaching focuses on core strength, alignment, mobility, and overall wellbeing — delivered with a warm, nurturing, and supportive approach that helps clients feel confident and comfortable from the moment they walk in.

How Pilates Became Part of Her Life

Mel first discovered Pilates through a close friend, Sarah, who was training as a Pilates Mat instructor. Sunday afternoons soon turned into regular mat sessions at Mel's — and that was where she realised just how powerful mindful movement could be.

In 2017, Mel decided to take that interest further and formally trained as a Pilates Mat Instructor with Core Pilates NYC, beginning a career that blended movement, education, and genuine care for people.

Professional Training & Experience

Working in a studio that offered both Mat and Reformer Pilates sparked Mel’s curiosity about the Reformer — and in 2018 she began specialist training. She completed her Group Reformer Pilates qualification in 2019 through Hearts & Bones NZ, going on to teach at BodyAlign in Lower Hutt. With 12 reformers in the studio, Mel taught busy group classes and built strong relationships with her clients — many of whom still train with her today.

BodyBella Studio — Established 2020

In June 2020, Mel opened BodyBella, a boutique home-based studio with four high-quality reformer machines. She intentionally keeps classes small so she can provide individual attention, technical guidance, and modifications — ensuring every client feels supported, whatever their experience level.

 

Mel is passionate about helping both women and men discover strength, confidence, and connection through Pilates.

Menopause Specialist

In 2022, Mel extended her training to become a Menopause Specialist, deepening her ability to support clients through the physical and emotional changes of midlife. She continues ongoing education and has more study planned for early 2026 — so stay tuned.

Beyond the Studio

Quiet by nature, Mel has a dry, playful sense of humour that often sneaks into her classes — helping people feel at ease while they work. Outside the studio, she loves spending time on the water with her partner, catching up with friends and family over coffee, and enjoying the occasional square (or three) of Whittaker’s chocolate.
